Washburn Ranger District Trail Report for Tuesday, November 17
Grading activities to repair washouts from the Fall rains and smooth the trails out before freeze up are nearly finished. Dozer operations are currently on the Iron River Trail (Trail 31) between FR 847 and Fire Tower Road. When that section is completed, operations will move to the Ruth Lake area of the Buckskin Trail. No grading activities will occur during the deer rifle season, which begins on Saturday, November 21st and runs through Sunday, November 29th. ATV trails are open during the gun season, however, recreational riding is discouraged. Anyone using the trails during this time should wear blaze orange and be alert for hunting activities in the vicinity of the trail. If weather and ground conditions permit, spot grading in various areas throughout the district will resume after the conclusion of the rifle season.
Forest Visitors: Please remember that the Valhalla and Drummond parking areas require a $5 daily fee or an annual parking pass. Daily passes can be purchased on site, and annual passes are available at district offices and area vendors. The 2009 forest passes are valid until March 31, 2010. Trail passes are also required for all non-resident ATVs. These passes can be purchased for $35.00 at local chambers of commerce and sporting goods stores, and must be visible and permanently affixed on the forward half of the ATV.
Bayfield County ATV Association trail report for Friday, October 2
All Bayfield County trails are open and in very good condition. Due to the recent high winds, expect fallen trees and debris across the trails. As soon as the conditions make it safe to do so, we will be removing the trees as quickly as possible. Also use caution at this time since the leaves have started falling and covering the trails.
Trail 31 (Iron River trail) will have the section between FR 242 and FR 236 closed due to washouts with heavy equipment working in that area. Detours will be posted. The rest of the trail system will remain open at the present time. Please call the Washburn Ranger District at 715-373-2667 for further updates around the Vahalla area and also any other possible closures.
20 new map boards have been installed throughout the Bayfield County trail system thanks to the Iron River Area Chamber of Commerce and Bayfield County Tourism Association.
When reporting trail conditions refer to the Bayfield County ATV map and be as specific as possible. The orange background is Bayfield County and portions with green or pink background are the responsibility of the Washburn Ranger District.
