NASTAR (National Standard Racing) is a great opportunity for participants of all ages to race a giant slalom course and compare results to others in their age category across the nation. Participants ages 12 and under race free thanks to generous support from the Rychel family. NASTAR is open to Alpine Skiers, Boarders and Telemark Skiers. Racing NASTAR is a great opportunity to have fun in a non-competitive atmosphere. Accumulate points all year because awards will be given at the end of the race season to the top three racers in each age group. Bring a friend and challenge each other for the fastest time every Sunday all season long at Mt. Ashwabay!

Don’t let winter slow you down! Women’s Wednesday Nordic Ski Group is the perfect way to exercise and socialize. All ages and abilities are welcome! If you are a beginner, come get free Nordic ski lessons. If you have more experience, come get a great workout. In any case, you will have fun and meet other active women in the area. No equipment? No problem! Mt Ashwabay has great beginner gear at low rental rates. Free to Season Pass Holders / $5 nightly trail pass / $10 nightly trail pass & rental equipment.

Cable is Home of the American Birkebeiner, North America's largest Cross Country Ski Race, held annually each February. The world comes to the Cable & Hayward Areas for the Birkie & Kortelopet cross country ski races. The Birkie trail is world-famous and takes racers on a challenging 51k course from Cable to Main Street in downtown Hayward. Over 9,500 skiers, including many international visitors, participate in this event. There are many other events that happen during the course of the weekend and days before: Birkie 50k/54k, Kortelopet 23k, Prince Haakon 12k, Elite Sprints, Barnebirkie, 5k/10k Family Fun Ski, Junior Birkie, Barkie Birkie Skijor, Birkie Sit-Ski, Giant Ski, Snowshoe Hike, Camp Bikie Child Care, Birkie Trail Run & Trek, BirkieTour.

Are you looking for a fun activity to do with the family before the big “Birkie” race? The Cable Natural History Museum has partnered with the American Birkebeiner Foundation for a one mile leisurely snowshoe hike in the peaceful winter woods. Learn about winter ecology and wildlife tracking and experience the Northwoods on snowshoes. Adult and children’s snowshoes are available for use from the Museum for $2/child pair and $4/adult pair. The program will not occur if the temperature is below 5° F. Donations accepted. Call the Museum to reserve your snowshoes.

This long-running program is for youth ages 6-14 years. Volunteer instructors work closely with students and parents to instill a love of skiing and snowboarding.
At the heart of the program is family involvement. Parents are encouraged to volunteer as coaches, and in doing so learn skills they can carry forward and use after the program. This is a perennial family favorite!

The annual Rychel Cup Race Series is open to all skills and all ages. Racers compete in 2-Slalom, 2-Giant Slalom, and 2-Super G events, with the best 4 of 6 runs scored. Winners are declared in various ages of Men's and Women's categories.

This is a walk in site. Returns are prepared on a first come, first serve basis. Appointments for following weeks can be given in person at the site during the tax preparation hours.
