US Forest Service Campgrounds

The US Forest Services operates 5 campgrounds in Bayfield County:

Birch Grove Campground (Washburn)

This campground is a family favorite nestled between East Twin Lake (22 acres) and West Twin Lake (16 acres).  Each campsite has a parking spur, fire ring, picnic table, tent pad, and can accomodate RVs up to 35 feet.  Featured fish species include bass, panfish and northern pike.  The nearby Valhalla Trail can be used for horseback riding, hunting, mountain biking and hiking.

Directions:

From Washburn, follow Hwy 13 south 1 mile, turn right (west) on Wannebo Rd for 8 miles.  Turn right (north) on Forest Rd 252 for 2 miles and right (east) on Forest Rd 435 for 1 mile.

 Namekagon Lake Campground (Grand View)

This campground is situated on a large lake that is the headwaters of the Namekagon River. All sites have fire grates and picnic tables and can accommodate RVs between 35-45 feet.  Recreation opportunities in the area include excellent fishing, wildlife viewing, mountain biking trails, and hiking on the North Country National Scenic Trail.

 Directions:

Located approximately 17 miles east of Cable, drive east on Hwy M 10.9 miles to Hwy D. Turn left (north) on D and proceed 5.5 miles to Forest Rd 209. Turn left (west) and proceed 0.3 miles to the campground.

Perch Lake Campground (Drummond)

This quaint campground is another family favorite. Each site includes a parking spur, fire ring, picnic table and tent pad. Most sites can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet.  The 72-acre lake contains trout, panfish and largemouth bass.  Nearby attractions include the Rainbow Lake Wilderness, the North Country National Scenic Trail, trout fishing in the White River, and the Rust-Owen Reservoir.

Two Lakes Campground (Drummond)

Shaded campsites nestled under towering pines and hardwoods is the setting for this campground. Each campsite includes a parking spur, fire ring, picnic table, tent pad and can accommodate RVs up to 50 feet. Lake Owen and Bass Lake contain panfish, northern pike, walleye, bass and trout. There are 7 walk-in campsites. Accessible sites for people with disabilities are also available. The North Country National Scenic Trail and Porcupine Lake Wilderness are adjacent or near the campground.

From Drummond, follow Forest Rd 213 southeast to the intersection of Forest Rd 213 & 216. Veer left (east) and continue on Forest Rd 213 for 2 miles. Veer right (south) on Forest Rd 214 and travel 1/2 mile to the campground.

Wanoka Lake (Iron River)

This campground is situated on a 15-acre trout lake. Each campsite includes a parking spur, fire ring, picnic table, tent pad and can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet.  The Tri-County Corridor Trail is nearby and is an excellent place to ride ATVs.
