Mr. Ness’s presentation will address how successful communities find ways to develop a story that authentically explains the character of the area and creates a sense of direction and inspiration into the future. Our goal is to create communities defined by pride and optimism - when that happens, individuals are more likely to confidently invest in themselves, their homes, their businesses, and the overall health of the place they live. Doors open at 5 pm and the keynote presentation is at 6 pm. Afterwards, Don will be signing copies of his book Hillsider, not your typical political memoir! Instead, this “love letter to Duluth.” cobbles 140 short essays and more than 500 full-color photos, paintings, and illustrations into a mosaic story of a young politician struggling to navigate the challenges of public life. Hillsider was honored with the 2016 Midwest Book Award by the Midwest Independent Publishing Association.
