The Port Wing Saturday Market started 6 years ago with a handful of vendors.
It has grown into a fun shopping place to hang out on Saturday mornings from May to October. The focus of the Port Wing Saturday Market is fresh, locally grown produce, plants and flowers. Our local farmers grow a wide variety of your favorite veggies and fruits. They also sell maple syrup, jams, jellies, farm fresh eggs & meats.
Not only do we have fresh local produce, we offer local artists the opportunity to showcase their art: handmade books, stone and beaded jewelry, wood-carved and wood-turned spoons and other utensils, pottery, soaps and lotions, knitted hats & mittens, handwoven rag-rugs, bird paintings on wood and funny signs, just right for your cabin or guesthouse.
When you are on the South Shore of Lake Superior, don't forget to stop by and visit!

WIIGWAAZII: THE EVOLVING TRADITIONS OF BIRCH
For more than thirty years, Pat Kruse has been creating birch bark art—the traditional Ojibwe way—by harvesting the bark himself and passing on the knowledge to his son who sews the pieces with sinew. As a child, Kruse grew up on the reservation and life was simple—living as much as possible off the land and learning from traditional knowledge. From one hand to another in the next generation, Pat Kruse teaches his son and shares with others some ancient designs of Ojibwe birch bark art.
As part of the traditional ways in which Kruse was raised, he knew he had to share the knowledge of these ancient skills and designs with his community and other birch bark artisans.

The basics of outdoor painting will be discussed throughout the workshop, as well as topics including choosing your subject, design and composition considerations, the importance of accurate drawing, painting fundamentals, and more. Delve into the effective application of color, value, intensity and temperature. This will be a gentle introduction to the joys of the plein air experience and may include time inside the studio as well as outdoors (weather allowing).
